After a career working in the office environment and marketing, in 2015 I finally started painting professionally. I set-up a small studio to teach mainly retired people to paint watercolour. I am loving it! I have approximately 40 people signed up who come and enjoy a couple of hours each week painting, socialising and generally letting their imaginations run free. I have also been involved in a community project making art accessible to the wider public. This was in part funded by Wychavon Council who made it possible for me and some arty friends to deliver art and crafts, painting classes and community projects in Droitwich.
I’ve been painting since my early teens, mostly in watercolours though I do paint in acrylics, gouache and occasionally oils. I also enjoy using aquarelle (watercolour) pencils and pastels.
I find watercolour is a great medium and well-suited to capturing the transient light and colour of the English countryside. Pastels are great for animals and portraits and I use acrylics for larger canvasses and supports. I often use pen and wash, especially if I am doing pictures of buildings or to give the image an extra ‘uumph’ !
Sometimes I add other items to paintings, such as petals and leaves. Salt and sand also add an interesting dimension.
I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. Visit my page on facebook and ‘follow me’ to see what I’m up to.
